Biography
Dr Tobius Thobile Poswa has been a Head of Department of Environmental Health at Mangosuthu University of Technology since 2009. He has held the same position at the then Natal Technikon, now Durban University of Technology. His mission is to strengthen science and deepen research in environmental health practice. He is a professional registered, multi-skilled, seasoned well-rounded leader practising as an Environmental Health practitioner Academic Leader with over 40 years combined professional and academic multidisciplinary experience acquired from serving various professional roles.
He graduated for his PhD with speciality on Bioethics and Health Law, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He also holds other multi-disciplinary post-graduate qualifications: Master of Commerce (MCOMM): Project Leadership and Management (University of Kwa-Zulu Natal) and Master of Technology (MTECH): Environmental Health (Durban University of Technology). He is a certified Ethics Officer (EO721) with The Ethics Institute. Has been training ethics since 2011 to multidisciplinary groupings including senior government officials.
He has been appointed and serving in the Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) for Foodborne Illinesses. He is a member of the Interprovincial Environmental Health Forum and Coordinator of all Environmental Health Training Institutions in South Africa. He facilitated multidisciplinary training projects at local government level including being a South Africa in-country trainer of trainers for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Waste Management projects. Served as a Municipal Solid Waste Manager and Provincial Waste Project leader in the Eastern Cape. Got and undertook merit selection sponsored international waste management trainings in Sweden and Germany.
